Here are Steps for Handling Floods in East Jakarta

The East Jakarta administration has conducted and implemented various efforts to overcome flooding and inundation, from building infiltration wells to new reservoirs and water channels.

East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar disclosed there had been 11 reservoirs built in East Jakarta. These included Pondok Ranggo, Kampung Rambutan, Munjul, Cilangkap, Pilar Jati Cipinang Melayu, Halim Perdanakusuma reservoirs, and so forth.

Then there were about 4,000 infiltration wells spread across residential areas, government and private office yards as well as on the sides of protocol roads, such as along Jalan DI Panjaitan.

To Overcome Flooding, City Deploys Personnel and Pumps

"Of course, this can overcome flooding in East Jakarta," he stated, during an iftar and farewell event with East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency Head, Wawan Kurniawan, last Tuesday (3/26).

This year, he added, a new water channel with a jacking system would be built on Jalan Jamboree, Cibubur.

"This is to overcome the continuous flooding that occurs every rainy season at that location," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Wawan Kurniawan, who has entered his retirement period as a Jakarta ASN since last Thursday (3/29), admitted that he had gained many impressions during his two years serving as Head of the East Jakarta SDA Sub-agency

With a very large area, he said the problems in East Jakarta are also quite complex, including the problem of flooding. Thereby, it required innovation and hard work, as well as a solid team.

"Thus, flood handling can be handled well and quickly," he stressed.

He added the support from the Mayor helped him and his staff a lot in solving the flooding problem in East Jakarta. One of them was handling continuous flooding on Jalan Swadaya, Pondok Ranggon.

"Now, no more flooding at that location, as it has been resolved by constructing a combined water channel with a jacking system," he said.
